Consuelo's Room

Words may not be all that matter, but they still matter.

Lullaby Book I

Consuelo Hamilton's debut novel Lullaby Book I is a story of an untimely love that takes the reader on a spell-binding journey. This book of historical fiction is sure to leave you wanting more!

Is Love Ever Enough?
This is the question Nady, a slave in Wilmington, North Carolina, searches to answer. The moment her Master heard her sing, he knew she was special and had her classically trained in French and Italian, making her a slave like none other in her time. She was dark and beautiful, and her talent was unmatched.
From childhood, her only chore was to sing her Master’s son, Mattie Jr., to sleep every night, songs that led to an unexpecting love. But would love ever be enough? This question haunted both Mattie and Nady from their childhood to and through the Civil War, until the question eventually took on a life of its own. It led them down dark paths, tragedies, and lives filled with mysteries, passion, rape, and even murder. Lullaby, a song forever whispered into the night.

Lullaby Book II Encore

Though the Civil War is over, several battles in the lives of Nady, Mattie, Jaydith, Mr. McCullen, Miss Elizabeth, and Jeffrey Burns have only just begun. Now a free woman, Nady finds herself trapped at McCullen plantation, more now than ever before, as she tries to find the child, who has gone missing, along with her most trusted voice teacher, Madam LaPierre. This quest takes Nady on a journey near and far, where she’ll find love and lose it again and again.

The lives of these main characters intertwine as if a cleverly composed sonata, told in their own words through their journals, diaries, and letters, all left behind. These characters tell of their mistakes, moments of passion, wrongs made right, and questions left unanswered, as well as reveal the identity of a murderer. For Nady, love, life, and loss all tallied a debt that seems impossible to repay, yet through her gift of song, she goes from being a slave on a plantation in North Carolina to singing at the Crystal Palace in England, where nothing is simple, yet somehow reason is revealed, leaving behind echoes of love, tragedy, untamed passion, murder, and mysteries that all began with a lullaby.
